Emily Levin, LCSW-R

Owner and Director

I am trained as a contemporary psychoanalyst, and this forms the foundation of my philosophical approach. My belief centers on the transformative power of constructing meaning from our life experiences.

The presence of a positive and healthy attachment in one's early years facilitates the development of a reflective capacity, aiding individuals in navigating the challenges they encounter. My practice is deeply rooted in the principle of prioritizing meaning-making, which I incorporate into my work with patients.

Specialties:

EMDR, Trauma, Maternal Mental Health, including: Infertility, Third Party Reproduction and Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders Relationship Issues, Eating Disorders and Parenting.

I’m cognizant of the diversity of therapeutic modalities and approaches available, which can enrich the depth and scope of our work.

Following my training as a psychoanalyst, I became increasingly aware of the limited consideration given to the body and nervous system within that modality. Consequently, I pursued training in EMDR (and became an EMDRIA Certified EMDR therapist ) and obtained Trauma Theory and Practice certification. This work deepened my understanding of neuroscience and led me to conceptualize profound healing through a trauma-focused lens.

Throughout my years of study and practice, I have consistently recognized the paramount importance of the initial attachment between infants and caregivers in shaping positive adult attachments. This realization motivated me to undergo training in parent-infant psychotherapy, where I had the privilege of working alongside a psychology team in a NICU setting. My commitment to a holistic approach has also led me to train in AEDP, Theraplay, Postpartum Depression and Stress, The Gottman Method, and the provision of EMDR for perinatal trauma.

As a result, my expertise now spans a range of specialties, including early attachment trauma, postpartum stress and depression, birth trauma, and EMDR, as well as assisting individuals in navigating general adjustment challenges and life stressors. My goal is to provide comprehensive and compassionate support to help individuals transform their lives and overcome the obstacles they face.
